noun. ˈdīˌnastˈäləjē. 1. The study, and formal recording, of a dynasty or dynasties; 2. The descent of a person, family, or group from a dynasty or dynasties; a type of lineage or pedigree; 3. A record or table of such descent; a dynastic tree.
Succession Wars
Over the course of history, the vast majority of wars have been fought over land and the right to succeed to a throne. In our modern era of democracies and dictatorships, the entire concept of dynastic warfare has disappeared, but even as late as World War II, dynastic warfare was an element, if not the purpose, of war. Below are a list of all major dynastic wars throughout history. Over time, I hope to write focus articles on them, describing the major players and the results.
